Playing in the snow

Today was a good day to don our snowshoes and go walk-about on our 10 acres....we spotted a group of four deer, foraging in our draw...but they didn't let us get too close!
Yesterday we did a x-country ski trip with the Penticton Outdoors Club up past Apex, around the Nickelplate Lake area....it was snowing for the first 1/2 hr or so....by the time we did 3 1/2 hrs, our legs were ready for a rest! But it was a great start to our snow-play this year!

Communing with nature...

January 9, 2008
Our first "big" hike this year...above Okanagan Falls (Peach Cliff Bluffs, our leader John calls it the Saw-whet Loop) It's partly sunny, partly cloudy with about 6-8" of snow on the ground (in some areas, less in others!)...a pretty day, especially when we saw a herd of deer cross the trail ahead of us...wary, as usual, of the gaggle of 2-legged animals gawking at them! (all 11 of us) We were out from 10:30 til 2pm, with our packed lunches.....after we returned, I went out with a couple of neighbours for an hour & a half power walk! Whew, my quads were more than happy to sit down to a hot bowl of freshly made pea (with ham) soup!

New Year, New Life

January 7, 2008
What does retirement in the Okanagan look like??? This is a photo taken from our back (temporary) steps (maybe the permanent ones will get built this spring??)
...on a sunny, crisp white Sunday ....snow-covered frozen Yellow Lake in the distance....looking down the valley towards Keremeos! so far, so good....hmm, what to do next?

Change is everywhere....

January 1, 2008
Have you been to White Rock lately? It's growing....not just out, but UP! I think we got out just in time! We spent New Year's Eve with old friends/neighbours (Ann & Gord) on Stevens St. and walked down to the beach on New Year's Day (along with friend, Joan) - it was brisk, with that typical West Coast damp cold...
